Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Tampa, Florida, established in 1917, provides burial services to the greater Tampa area. It is located on a 105-acre tract of land in northeastern Hillsborough County. The cemetery was founded by Daniel S. Wells, T.O. Wilson, and Clifton Benson. In 1932, A.C. Clewis and George B. Howell took ownership. The cemetery expanded over time, including a garden mausoleum and chapel area constructed in the early 1960s, according to Nightly Spirits. A dedicated Catholic garden was opened in 1926 after the nearby Catholic Church moved its own cemetery's burials to Myrtle Hill. The new cemetery was opened in 1857 as Myrtle Hill Cemetery. "Myrtle" was chosen because of the myrtle (vinca minor) or "Flower of Death" that grew wild over the hill. The original Cemetery of 11 acres (45,000 m2) was at the top of the hill. One of the first graves was of John Billups who died in 1857. Close to I275 close drive to downtown Tampa.
